- Devarim 8:1
. . . . .
And all the commandments which I charge you with today — keep them and act upon them, that you may live and multiply, and enter and possess the land which God swore to your fathers.
- Devarim 8:2
. . .
And remember all the way along which God your Lord made you journey in the wilderness these forty years, to weary you and test you, to make known to the people what is in your heart — whether you keep His commandments or not.
- Devarim 8:3
. . . . .
And He wearied you and made you hungry, and fed you the manna which you had not known, and your fathers had not known, that He might make known to you that it is not on bread alone that a person lives, but on all that issues from the word of God shall a person live.
- Devarim 8:4
. .
Your garments did not wear out, and your foot did not go bare, in these forty years.
- Devarim 8:5
. .
And know within yourself that just as a man disciplines his child, so God your Lord is disciplining you.
- Devarim 8:6
.
And keep His commandments, and walk in His ways, and fear Him.
- Devarim 8:7
. . . .
For God your Lord is bringing you into a good land — a land of water-courses, springs and deeps that burst forth in its valleys and its mountains,
- Devarim 8:8
. .
a land of wheat and barley, and vine and fig and pomegranate, a land of olive-oil and honey,
- Devarim 8:9
. . .
a land in which you shall not eat your food in short measure, and nothing shall be lacking to you therein — a land of which its stones are iron, and from its mountains, copper.
- Devarim 8:10
. .
And when you have eaten and are satisfied, bless God your Lord for the good land which He has given you.
- Devarim 8:11
. .
Beware lest you forget God your Lord, by not keeping His commandments and His ordinances and His statutes, which I charge you with today.
- Devarim 8:12
. .
Lest you eat and be satisfied, and build fine houses and dwell in them,
- Devarim 8:13
. .
and your cattle and your flocks multiply, and silver and gold multiply for you, and all that you have multiplies —
- Devarim 8:14
. .
and your heart becomes lifted up, and you forget God your Lord, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
- Devarim 8:15
. . .
who led you through the great and fearful wilderness, where there are burning serpents and scorpions, and thirst where there is no water — who brought out water for you from the hard flint-rock,
- Devarim 8:16
. .
who fed you manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had not known, to afflict you and test you, and reward you with good in your latter end.
- Devarim 8:17
. .
And you shall not say within yourself: 'My strength and the greatness of my power have gained me this prosperity.'
- Devarim 8:18
. . .
But remember God your Lord, for it is He who gives you the power by which you gain prosperity, that He may fulfill His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as on this day of ours.
- Devarim 8:19
.
And if you forget God your Lord, and go off and worship other objects of worship and bow down to them — I make known to you today that you shall surely perish.
- Devarim 8:20
. . . .
Like the nations which God is destroying from before you, so shall you perish — since you did not accept the command of God your Lord.
