- Bereshit 1:1
בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים אֵת הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֵת הָאָרֶץ
.
The first thing God created was the heavens and the earth.
- Bereshit 1:2
וְהָאָרֶץ הָיְתָה תֹהוּ וָבֹהוּ וְחֹשֶׁךְ עַל-פְּנֵי תְהוֹם וְרוּחַ אֱלֹהִים מְרַחֶפֶת עַל-פְּנֵי הַמָּיִם
. . .
And the earth was submerged and sea-like; and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the winds of God blew over the face of the water.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי אוֹר וַיְהִי-אוֹר
.
God willed that there be light, and there was light.

וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאוֹר כִּי-טוֹב וַיַּבְדֵּל אֱלֹהִים בֵּין הָאוֹר וּבֵין הַחֹשֶׁךְ

And when God knew that the light was good, He separated between the light and the darkness.

וַיִּקְרָא אֱלֹהִים לָאוֹר יוֹם וְלַחֹשֶׁךְ קָרָא לָיְלָה וַיְהִי-עֶרֶב וַיְהִי-בֹקֶר יוֹם אֶחָד

And God called the times of light “day,” and the times of darkness “night.” And there passed of night and daytime one day.

God willed that there be a firmament in the midst of the water, and that it be a divider between the two waters.

וַיַּעַשׂ אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָרָקִיעַ וַיַּבְדֵּל בֵּין הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר מִתַּחַת לָרָקִיעַ וּבֵין הַמַּיִם אֲשֶׁר מֵעַל לָרָקִיעַ וַיְהִי-כֵן

And God made the firmament, and separated between the water which is below it and the water which is above it. And so it was.

וַיִּקְרָא אֱלֹהִים לָרָקִיעַ שָׁמָיִם וַיְהִי-עֶרֶב וַיְהִי-בֹקֶר יוֹם שֵׁנִי

And God called the firmament “sky.” And there passed of night and daytime a second day.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יִקָּווּ הַמַּיִם מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמַיִם אֶל-מָקוֹם אֶחָד וְתֵרָאֶה הַיַּבָּשָׁה וַיְהִי-כֵן
. . . .
God willed that the water gather, from beneath the sky, to one place, and that the dry land appear. And so it was.

וַיִּקְרָא אֱלֹהִים לַיַּבָּשָׁה אֶרֶץ וּלְמִקְוֵה הַמַּיִם קָרָא יַמִּים וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים כִּי-טוֹב

And God called the dry land “earth,” and the gathering of the water “seas” — for God knew that this was good.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים תַּדְשֵׁא הָאָרֶץ דֶּשֶׁא עֵשֶׂב מַזְרִיעַ זֶרַע עֵץ פְּרִי עֹשֶׂה פְּרִי לְמִינוֹ אֲשֶׁר זַרְעוֹ-בוֹ עַל-הָאָרֶץ וַיְהִי-כֵן
. . . . . .
God willed that the earth bring forth verdure: grass bearing seed, and tree bearing fruit, producing fruit according to its kinds, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth. And so it was.

וַתּוֹצֵא הָאָרֶץ דֶּשֶׁא עֵשֶׂב מַזְרִיעַ זֶרַע לְמִינֵהוּ וְעֵץ עֹשֶׂה-פְּרִי אֲשֶׁר זַרְעוֹ-בוֹ לְמִינֵהוּ וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים כִּי-טוֹב
. . . .
And the earth brought forth verdure: grass bearing seed according to its kinds, and tree producing fruit whose seed is in itself, according to its kinds. For God knew that this was good.

וַיְהִי-עֶרֶב וַיְהִי-בֹקֶר יוֹם שְׁלִישִׁי
And there passed of night and daytime a third day.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים יְהִי מְאֹרֹת בִּרְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמַיִם לְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הַיּוֹם וּבֵין הַלָּיְלָה וְהָיוּ לְאֹתֹת וּלְמוֹעֲדִים וּלְיָמִים וְשָׁנִים
. . . . . .
God willed that there be luminaries in the firmament of the sky, to separate between day and night, that they may be signs and seasons, days and years.

וְהָיוּ לִמְאוֹרֹת בִּרְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמַיִם לְהָאִיר עַל-הָאָרֶץ וַיְהִי-כֵן

And let the luminaries be in the firmament of the sky to give light upon the earth. And so it was.

וַיַּעַשׂ אֱלֹהִים אֶת-שְׁנֵי הַמְּאֹרֹת הַגְּדֹלִים אֶת-הַמָּאוֹר הַגָּדֹל לְמֶמְשֶׁלֶת הַיּוֹם וְאֶת-הַמָּאוֹר הַקָּטֹן לְמֶמְשֶׁלֶת הַלַּיְלָה וְאֵת הַכּוֹכָבִים

And God made the two great luminaries — the greater luminary for giving light in the day, and the lesser luminary for giving light in the night — and the stars.

וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים בִּרְקִיעַ הַשָּׁמָיִם לְהָאִיר עַל-הָאָרֶץ

And God set them in the firmament of the sky, to give light upon the earth,

וְלִמְשֹׁל בַּיּוֹם וּבַלַּיְלָה וּלְהַבְדִּיל בֵּין הָאוֹר וּבֵין הַחֹשֶׁךְ וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים כִּי-טוֹב

and to give light in the day and the night, and to separate between the light and the darkness. For God knew that this was good.

And there passed of night and daytime a fourth day.

God willed that there move forth from the water moving creatures possessing living souls, and bird that flies above the earth, facing the firmament of the sky.

And God created the great sea-creatures, and all the living, creeping souls which moved forth from the water, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kinds. For God knew that this was good.

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים לֵאמֹר פְּרוּ וּרְבוּ וּמִלְאוּ אֶת-הַמַּיִם בַּיַּמִּים וְהָעוֹף יִרֶב בָּאָרֶץ

And God blessed them, and said decreeing: “Bear fruit and multiply, and fill the water which is in the seas; and let the bird multiply upon the earth.”

And there passed of night and daytime a fifth day.

And God made the wild creatures of the earth according to their kinds, and the beasts according to their kinds, and every creeping thing of the earth according to its kinds. For God knew that this was good.

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים נַעֲשֶׂה אָדָם בְּצַלְמֵנוּ כִּדְמוּתֵנוּ וְיִרְדּוּ בִדְגַת הַיָּם וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבַבְּהֵמָה וּבְכָל-הָאָרֶץ וּבְכָל-הָרֶמֶשׂ הָרֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאָרֶץ

God said: “Let us make a human in our form, after our likeness, sovereign — that they may rule over the fish of the sea, and the bird of the sky, and the beasts, and the whole earth, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.”

וַיִּבְרָא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאָדָם בְּצַלְמוֹ בְּצֶלֶם אֱלֹהִים בָּרָא אֹתוֹ זָכָר וּנְקֵבָה בָּרָא אֹתָם

And God created Adam in His form, sovereign He created him; male and female He created them.

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֹתָם אֱלֹהִים וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם אֱלֹהִים פְּרוּ וּרְבוּ וּמִלְאוּ אֶת-הָאָרֶץ וְכִבְשֻׁהָ וּרְדוּ בִּדְגַת הַיָּם וּבְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּבְכָל-חַיָּה הָרֹמֶשֶׂת עַל-הָאָרֶץ

And God blessed the two of them, and said to them: “Bear fruit and multiply, and fill the earth and master it; and rule over the fish of the sea and the bird of the sky and every living thing that creeps upon the earth.”

וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים הִנֵּה נָתַתִּי לָכֶם אֶת-כָּל-עֵשֶׂב זֹרֵעַ זֶרַע אֲשֶׁר עַל-פְּנֵי כָל-הָאָרֶץ וְאֶת-כָּל-הָעֵץ אֲשֶׁר-בּוֹ פְרִי-עֵץ זֹרֵעַ זָרַע לָכֶם יִהְיֶה לְאָכְלָה

And God said: “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of the whole earth, and every tree wherein is fruit bearing seed — these shall be for you as food.

וּלְכָל-חַיַּת הָאָרֶץ וּלְכָל-עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּלְכֹל רוֹמֵשׂ עַל-הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר-בּוֹ נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה אֶת-כָּל-יֶרֶק עֵשֶׂב לְאָכְלָה וַיְהִי-כֵן
. . . . .
And to every wild creature of the earth, and bird of the sky, and all that creeps upon the earth in which is a living soul — all green herbage shall be for food.” And so it was.

וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וְהִנֵּה-טוֹב מְאֹד וַיְהִי-עֶרֶב וַיְהִי-בֹקֶר יוֹם הַשִּׁשִּׁי
