- Bereshit 2:1
וַיְכֻלּוּ הַשָּׁמַיִם וְהָאָרֶץ וְכָל-צְבָאָם
.
The heavens and the earth and all their hosts were completed.
- Bereshit 2:2
וַיְכַל אֱלֹהִים בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וַיִּשְׁבֹּת בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה
. . .
And God completed on the seventh day His creation that He had made; and He desisted on it from creating anything from the like of His creation that He had made.

וַיְבָרֶךְ אֱלֹהִים אֶת-יוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֹתוֹ כִּי בוֹ שָׁבַת מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּוֹ אֲשֶׁר-בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים לַעֲשׂוֹת

And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, since He desisted on it from creating anything from the like of His creation that He had made.

This is the exposition of the origins of the sky and the earth, when they were created — at the time God made the earth and the sky.

And all the trees of the wilderness, before they were upon the earth, and all its herbage, before it grew — since God had not rained upon it, nor was there a human to till it,

וְאֵד יַעֲלֶה מִן-הָאָרֶץ וְהִשְׁקָה אֶת-כָּל-פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה

nor was a vapor rising up from it to water all its face —

וַיִּיצֶר יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאָדָם עָפָר מִן-הָאֲדָמָה וַיִּפַּח בְּאַפָּיו נִשְׁמַת חַיִּים וַיְהִי הָאָדָם לְנֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה

And God created Adam — dust from the earth — and breathed into his nostril the breath of life; and Adam became a rational soul.

וַיִּטַּע יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים גַּן-בְּעֵדֶן--מִקֶּדֶם וַיָּשֶׂם שָׁם אֶת-הָאָדָם אֲשֶׁר יָצָר

And God planted a garden in Eden, easterly, and placed there the Adam whom He had created.

וַיַּצְמַח יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים מִן-הָאֲדָמָה כָּל-עֵץ נֶחְמָד לְמַרְאֶה וְטוֹב לְמַאֲכָל--וְעֵץ הַחַיִּים בְּתוֹךְ הַגָּן וְעֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע
. . . .
And God caused to grow from the earth every tree fair of appearance and good for eating; and the tree of life in the midst of the garden; and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

וְנָהָר יֹצֵא מֵעֵדֶן לְהַשְׁקוֹת אֶת-הַגָּן וּמִשָּׁם יִפָּרֵד וְהָיָה לְאַרְבָּעָה רָאשִׁים

And there was a river going out from Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided, and became four heads.

שֵׁם הָאֶחָד פִּישׁוֹן--הוּא הַסֹּבֵב אֵת כָּל-אֶרֶץ הַחֲוִילָה אֲשֶׁר-שָׁם הַזָּהָב

The name of one of them is the Nile (Pishon); and it is the one encompassing all the land of Zawila (Havilah), where the gold is.

וּזְהַב הָאָרֶץ הַהִוא טוֹב שָׁם הַבְּדֹלַח וְאֶבֶן הַשֹּׁהַם
.
And the gold of that land is good; there are the pearls and the crystal stones.
- Bereshit 2:13
וְשֵׁם-הַנָּהָר הַשֵּׁנִי גִּיחוֹן--הוּא הַסּוֹבֵב אֵת כָּל-אֶרֶץ כּוּשׁ
.
And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one encompassing all the land of Abyssinia (Cush).
- Bereshit 2:14
וְשֵׁם הַנָּהָר הַשְּׁלִישִׁי חִדֶּקֶל הוּא הַהֹלֵךְ קִדְמַת אַשּׁוּר וְהַנָּהָר הָרְבִיעִי הוּא פְרָת
. .
And the name of the third river is the Tigris (Hiddekel); it is the one running east of Mosul (Asshur). And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

וַיִּקַּח יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים אֶת-הָאָדָם וַיַּנִּחֵהוּ בְגַן-עֵדֶן לְעָבְדָהּ וּלְשָׁמְרָהּ

Then God took Adam, and settled him in the garden of Eden, to till it and to guard it.

וַיְצַו יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים עַל-הָאָדָם לֵאמֹר מִכֹּל עֵץ-הַגָּן אָכֹל תֹּאכֵל

And God commanded him, saying: 'From every tree of the garden it is permitted that you eat;

וּמֵעֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע--לֹא תֹאכַל מִמֶּנּוּ כִּי בְּיוֹם אֲכָלְךָ מִמֶּנּוּ--מוֹת תָּמוּת
.
but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat — for on the day you eat from it, you shall deserve to die.'

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים לֹא-טוֹב הֱיוֹת הָאָדָם לְבַדּוֹ אֶעֱשֶׂה-לּוֹ עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ

Then God said: 'There is no good in Adam's remaining alone; I shall make for him a helper facing him.'

וַיִּצֶר יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים מִן-הָאֲדָמָה כָּל-חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וְאֵת כָּל-עוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וַיָּבֵא אֶל-הָאָדָם לִרְאוֹת מַה-יִּקְרָא-לוֹ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָא-לוֹ הָאָדָם נֶפֶשׁ חַיָּה הוּא שְׁמוֹ
. . . .
And God gathered from the earth all the wild creatures of the wilderness and the bird of the sky, and brought them to Adam, to show him what he would name them. And every living soul that Adam named — that is its name to this day.

וַיִּקְרָא הָאָדָם שֵׁמוֹת לְכָל-הַבְּהֵמָה וּלְעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם וּלְכֹל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה וּלְאָדָם לֹא-מָצָא עֵזֶר כְּנֶגְדּוֹ

And when Adam had named names for all the beasts and the bird of the sky and the wild creatures of the wilderness — he did not find for himself a helper facing him.

וַיַּפֵּל יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים תַּרְדֵּמָה עַל-הָאָדָם וַיִּישָׁן וַיִּקַּח אַחַת מִצַּלְעֹתָיו וַיִּסְגֹּר בָּשָׂר תַּחְתֶּנָּה

And God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, so that he should not feel it, and he slept; and He extracted one of his ribs, and closed up its place with flesh.

וַיֹּאמֶר הָאָדָם זֹאת הַפַּעַם עֶצֶם מֵעֲצָמַי וּבָשָׂר מִבְּשָׂרִי לְזֹאת יִקָּרֵא אִשָּׁה כִּי מֵאִישׁ לֻקְחָה-זֹּאת

And Adam said: 'This time I have seen bone from my bones and flesh from my flesh — it is fitting that she be called Woman, because from Man she was taken.'

עַל-כֵּן יַעֲזָב-אִישׁ אֶת-אָבִיו וְאֶת-אִמּוֹ וְדָבַק בְּאִשְׁתּוֹ וְהָיוּ לְבָשָׂר אֶחָד

Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves to his wife; and the two become a single body.

וַיִּהְיוּ שְׁנֵיהֶם עֲרוּמִּים הָאָדָם וְאִשְׁתּוֹ וְלֹא יִתְבֹּשָׁשׁוּ

And the two of them together were naked — Adam and his wife — and they did not feel shame at it.
