Saadia's Tafsir on Bamidbar 7 (Parashat Nasso)

Bamidbar 7:1

וַיְהִי בְּיוֹם כַּלּוֹת מֹשֶׁה לְהָקִים אֶת-הַמִּשְׁכָּן וַיִּמְשַׁח אֹתוֹ וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֹתוֹ וְאֶת-כָּל-כֵּלָיו וְאֶת-הַמִּזְבֵּחַ וְאֶת-כָּל-כֵּלָיו וַיִּמְשָׁחֵם וַיְקַדֵּשׁ אֹתָם

. . .

And it was on the day when Moses had finished from erecting the tabernacle, and had anointed it and consecrated it and all its vessels, and the altar and all its vessels — he anointed them and consecrated them.

Bamidbar 7:2

וַיַּקְרִיבוּ נְשִׂיאֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל רָאשֵׁי בֵּית אֲבֹתָם הֵם נְשִׂיאֵי הַמַּטֹּת הֵם הָעֹמְדִים עַל-הַפְּקֻדִים

. . .

Then the nobles of the sons of Israel drew near — heads of their fathers' houses, they being heads of the tribes, those present at their census.

Bamidbar 7:3

וַיָּבִיאוּ אֶת-קָרְבָּנָם לִפְנֵי יְהוָה שֵׁשׁ-עֶגְלֹת צָב וּשְׁנֵי עָשָׂר בָּקָר--עֲגָלָה עַל-שְׁנֵי הַנְּשִׂאִים וְשׁוֹר לְאֶחָד וַיַּקְרִיבוּ אוֹתָם לִפְנֵי הַמִּשְׁכָּן

. . .

And they brought their offering before God: six covered wagons and twelve oxen — a wagon for every two nobles and an ox for each one — and they presented them before the tabernacle.

Bamidbar 7:4

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר

And God said to Moses, saying:

Bamidbar 7:5

קַח מֵאִתָּם וְהָיוּ לַעֲבֹד אֶת-עֲבֹדַת אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְנָתַתָּה אוֹתָם אֶל-הַלְוִיִּם אִישׁ כְּפִי עֲבֹדָתוֹ

. . .

'Take these from them, and they shall be for the service of the tent of meeting; and distribute them to every group of the Levites according to their service.'

Bamidbar 7:6

וַיִּקַּח מֹשֶׁה אֶת-הָעֲגָלֹת וְאֶת-הַבָּקָר וַיִּתֵּן אוֹתָם אֶל-הַלְוִיִּם

And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them to the Levites.

Bamidbar 7:7

אֵת שְׁתֵּי הָעֲגָלוֹת וְאֵת אַרְבַּעַת הַבָּקָר--נָתַן לִבְנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן כְּפִי עֲבֹדָתָם

Two wagons and four oxen he gave to the sons of Gershon, according to their service.

Bamidbar 7:8

וְאֵת אַרְבַּע הָעֲגָלֹת וְאֵת שְׁמֹנַת הַבָּקָר--נָתַן לִבְנֵי מְרָרִי כְּפִי עֲבֹדָתָם בְּיַד אִיתָמָר בֶּן-אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן

. . . . .

And four wagons and eight oxen he gave to the sons of Merari, according to their service — all of it under the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the imām.

Bamidbar 7:9

וְלִבְנֵי קְהָת לֹא נָתָן כִּי-עֲבֹדַת הַקֹּדֶשׁ עֲלֵהֶם בַּכָּתֵף יִשָּׂאוּ

. .

But to the sons of Kohath he gave nothing, because the service of the sanctuary was upon them — rather they carry it upon their shoulders.

Bamidbar 7:10

וַיַּקְרִיבוּ הַנְּשִׂאִים אֵת חֲנֻכַּת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ בְּיוֹם הִמָּשַׁח אֹתוֹ וַיַּקְרִיבוּ הַנְּשִׂיאִם אֶת-קָרְבָּנָם לִפְנֵי הַמִּזְבֵּחַ

And when the nobles brought the inauguration-gift of the altar on the day of its anointing, they presented their offerings before the altar.

Bamidbar 7:11

וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה נָשִׂיא אֶחָד לַיּוֹם נָשִׂיא אֶחָד לַיּוֹם יַקְרִיבוּ אֶת-קָרְבָּנָם לַחֲנֻכַּת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ

And God said to Moses: 'One noble per day shall present his offering as an inauguration-gift for the altar.'

Bamidbar 7:12

וַיְהִי הַמַּקְרִיב בַּיּוֹם הָרִאשׁוֹן--אֶת-קָרְבָּנוֹ נַחְשׁוֹן בֶּן-עַמִּינָדָב לְמַטֵּה יְהוּדָה

And the one presenting on the first day his offering was Nahshon son of Amminadab, noble of the tribe of Judah.

Bamidbar 7:13

וְקָרְבָּנוֹ קַעֲרַת-כֶּסֶף אַחַת שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמֵאָה מִשְׁקָלָהּ מִזְרָק אֶחָד כֶּסֶף שִׁבְעִים שֶׁקֶל בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ שְׁנֵיהֶם מְלֵאִים סֹלֶת בְּלוּלָה בַשֶּׁמֶן--לְמִנְחָה

. . . .

And his offering was: a silver bowl, its weight a hundred and thirty shekels by the shekel of the sanctuary, and a silver basin, its weight seventy shekels — both of them filled with fine flour mixed with oil, for the gift-offering.

Bamidbar 7:14

כַּף אַחַת עֲשָׂרָה זָהָב מְלֵאָה קְטֹרֶת

A gold casket, its weight ten shekels, filled with incense.

Bamidbar 7:15

פַּר אֶחָד בֶּן-בָּקָר אַיִל אֶחָד כֶּבֶשׂ-אֶחָד בֶּן-שְׁנָתוֹ--לְעֹלָה

.

And a bull of the herd, a ram, and a yearling lamb, for the ascent-offering.

Bamidbar 7:16

שְׂעִיר-עִזִּים אֶחָד לְחַטָּאת

And a he-goat of the goats, for the purification-offering.

Bamidbar 7:17

וּלְזֶבַח הַשְּׁלָמִים בָּקָר שְׁנַיִם אֵילִם חֲמִשָּׁה עַתּוּדִים חֲמִשָּׁה כְּבָשִׂים בְּנֵי-שָׁנָה חֲמִשָּׁה זֶה קָרְבַּן נַחְשׁוֹן בֶּן-עַמִּינָדָב

. . .

And for the peace-sacrifice: two heifers, five rams, five he-goats, and five yearling lambs. This was the offering of Nahshon son of Amminadab.

הִקְרִב אֶת-קָרְבָּנוֹ קַעֲרַת-כֶּסֶף אַחַת שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמֵאָה מִשְׁקָלָהּ מִזְרָק אֶחָד כֶּסֶף שִׁבְעִים שֶׁקֶל בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ שְׁנֵיהֶם מְלֵאִים סֹלֶת בְּלוּלָה בַשֶּׁמֶן--לְמִנְחָה

He presented his offering: a silver bowl, its weight a hundred and thirty shekels by the shekel of the sanctuary, and a silver basin, its weight seventy shekels — both of them filled with fine flour mixed with oil, for the gift-offering.

קָרְבָּנוֹ קַעֲרַת-כֶּסֶף אַחַת שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמֵאָה מִשְׁקָלָהּ מִזְרָק אֶחָד כֶּסֶף שִׁבְעִים שֶׁקֶל בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ שְׁנֵיהֶם מְלֵאִים סֹלֶת בְּלוּלָה בַשֶּׁמֶן--לְמִנְחָה

And the one presenting on the fifth day was Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai, noble of Simeon.

קָרְבָּנוֹ קַעֲרַת-כֶּסֶף אַחַת שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמֵאָה מִשְׁקָלָהּ מִזְרָק אֶחָד כֶּסֶף שִׁבְעִים שֶׁקֶל בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ שְׁנֵיהֶם מְלֵאִים סֹלֶת בְּלוּלָה בַשֶּׁמֶן--לְמִנְחָה

זֹאת חֲנֻכַּת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ בְּיוֹם הִמָּשַׁח אֹתוֹ מֵאֵת נְשִׂיאֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל קַעֲרֹת כֶּסֶף שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה מִזְרְקֵי-כֶסֶף שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר כַּפּוֹת זָהָב שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה

. . . .

This is the total of the inauguration-gift of the altar on the day of its anointing, from the nobles of the sons of Israel: twelve silver bowls, twelve silver basins, and twelve gold caskets.

Bamidbar 7:85

שְׁלֹשִׁים וּמֵאָה הַקְּעָרָה הָאַחַת כֶּסֶף וְשִׁבְעִים הַמִּזְרָק הָאֶחָד כֹּל כֶּסֶף הַכֵּלִים אַלְפַּיִם וְאַרְבַּע-מֵאוֹת בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ

. . .

Each bowl of a hundred and thirty shekels of silver, and each basin of seventy shekels of silver — so all the silver of the vessels: two thousand and four hundred shekels by the shekel of the sanctuary.

Bamidbar 7:86

כַּפּוֹת זָהָב שְׁתֵּים-עֶשְׂרֵה מְלֵאֹת קְטֹרֶת עֲשָׂרָה עֲשָׂרָה הַכַּף בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ כָּל-זְהַב הַכַּפּוֹת עֶשְׂרִים וּמֵאָה

. .

And the gold caskets — twelve, filled with incense, each casket of ten shekels by the shekel of the sanctuary — so all the gold of the caskets: a hundred and twenty shekels.

Bamidbar 7:87

כָּל-הַבָּקָר לָעֹלָה שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר פָּרִים אֵילִם שְׁנֵים-עָשָׂר כְּבָשִׂים בְּנֵי-שָׁנָה שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר--וּמִנְחָתָם וּשְׂעִירֵי עִזִּים שְׁנֵים עָשָׂר לְחַטָּאת

. . .

And all the cattle of the ascent-offering: twelve bulls, and the rams twelve, and the yearling lambs twelve, with their grain-offering; and the he-goats twelve, for the purification-offering.

Bamidbar 7:88

וְכֹל בְּקַר זֶבַח הַשְּׁלָמִים עֶשְׂרִים וְאַרְבָּעָה פָּרִים אֵילִם שִׁשִּׁים עַתֻּדִים שִׁשִּׁים כְּבָשִׂים בְּנֵי-שָׁנָה שִׁשִּׁים זֹאת חֲנֻכַּת הַמִּזְבֵּחַ אַחֲרֵי הִמָּשַׁח אֹתוֹ

. . . . .

And all the cattle of the peace-sacrifice: twenty-four heifers, sixty rams, sixty he-goats, and sixty yearling lambs. This was the inauguration-gift of the altar after it was anointed.

Bamidbar 7:89

וּבְבֹא מֹשֶׁה אֶל-אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לְדַבֵּר אִתּוֹ וַיִּשְׁמַע אֶת-הַקּוֹל מִדַּבֵּר אֵלָיו מֵעַל הַכַּפֹּרֶת אֲשֶׁר עַל-אֲרֹן הָעֵדֻת מִבֵּין שְׁנֵי הַכְּרֻבִים וַיְדַבֵּר אֵלָיו

. . . . .

And it was that whenever Moses entered the tent of meeting to be spoken with, he would hear the voice addressing him from above the cover that was upon the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim — and it would address him there.
