  1. Bereshit 29:1

    וַיִּשָּׂא יַעֲקֹב רַגְלָיו וַיֵּלֶךְ אַרְצָה בְנֵי-קֶדֶם

    .

    And Jacob lifted up his feet, and went to the land of the people of the east.

  2. Bereshit 29:2

    וַיַּרְא וְהִנֵּה בְאֵר בַּשָּׂדֶה וְהִנֵּה-שָׁם שְׁלֹשָׁה עֶדְרֵי-צֹאן רֹבְצִים עָלֶיהָ--כִּי מִן-הַבְּאֵר הַהִוא יַשְׁקוּ הָעֲדָרִים וְהָאֶבֶן גְּדֹלָה עַל-פִּי הַבְּאֵר

    . . . ]] ]]

    And he looked — and behold, a well in the wilderness; and there were three flocks of sheep crouching by itfor from it they watered the flocks. And a great stone was upon its mouth.

  3. Bereshit 29:3

    וְנֶאֶסְפוּ-שָׁמָּה כָל-הָעֲדָרִים וְגָלְלוּ אֶת-הָאֶבֶן מֵעַל פִּי הַבְּאֵר וְהִשְׁקוּ אֶת-הַצֹּאן וְהֵשִׁיבוּ אֶת-הָאֶבֶן עַל-פִּי הַבְּאֵר לִמְקֹמָהּ

    . . .

    And when all the herdsmen of the flocks were gathered there, they would roll the stone from the mouth of the well, and water the sheep; then they returned it to its place.

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם יַעֲקֹב אַחַי מֵאַיִן אַתֶּם וַיֹּאמְרוּ מֵחָרָן אֲנָחְנוּ

    Jacob said to them: 'Where are you from, my brothers?' They said: 'We are from Haran.'

  5. Bereshit 29:5

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הַיְדַעְתֶּם אֶת-לָבָן בֶּן-נָחוֹר וַיֹּאמְרוּ יָדָעְנוּ

    . .

    He said to them: 'Do you know Laban the son of Nahor?' They said: 'Yes.'

  6. Bereshit 29:6

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָהֶם הֲשָׁלוֹם לוֹ וַיֹּאמְרוּ שָׁלוֹם--וְהִנֵּה רָחֵל בִּתּוֹ בָּאָה עִם-הַצֹּאן

    . . .

    He said: 'Is he in good health?' They said: 'Yes. And behold, Rachel his daughter is coming with the sheep.'

  7. Bereshit 29:7

    וַיֹּאמֶר הֵן עוֹד הַיּוֹם גָּדוֹל--לֹא-עֵת הֵאָסֵף הַמִּקְנֶה הַשְׁקוּ הַצֹּאן וּלְכוּ רְעוּ

    . . .

    And he said to them: 'Behold, the day is still long; it is not the time for the cattle to be gathered. Water the sheep, and go pasture them.'

  8. Bereshit 29:8

    וַיֹּאמְרוּ לֹא נוּכַל עַד אֲשֶׁר יֵאָסְפוּ כָּל-הָעֲדָרִים וְגָלְלוּ אֶת-הָאֶבֶן מֵעַל פִּי הַבְּאֵר וְהִשְׁקִינוּ הַצֹּאן

    . . .

    They said: 'We cannot do that, until the herdsmen of the flocks gather, and roll the stone from the mouth of the well; then we water the sheep.'

  9. Bereshit 29:9

    עוֹדֶנּוּ מְדַבֵּר עִמָּם וְרָחֵל בָּאָה עִם-הַצֹּאן אֲשֶׁר לְאָבִיהָ--כִּי רֹעָה הִוא

    . . .

    While he was still speaking with them, Rachel arrived with her father's sheepfor she was a shepherdess.

  10. Bereshit 29:10

    וַיְהִי כַּאֲשֶׁר רָאָה יַעֲקֹב אֶת-רָחֵל בַּת-לָבָן אֲחִי אִמּוֹ וְאֶת-צֹאן לָבָן אֲחִי אִמּוֹ וַיִּגַּשׁ יַעֲקֹב וַיָּגֶל אֶת-הָאֶבֶן מֵעַל פִּי הַבְּאֵר וַיַּשְׁקְ אֶת-צֹאן לָבָן אֲחִי אִמּוֹ

    . . . .

    And when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his maternal uncle, and the sheep of Laban his maternal uncle, he drew near and rolled the stone from the mouth of the well, and watered his flock.

  11. Bereshit 29:11

    וַיִּשַּׁק יַעֲקֹב לְרָחֵל וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת-קֹלוֹ וַיֵּבְךְּ

    .

    And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

  12. Bereshit 29:12

    וַיַּגֵּד יַעֲקֹב לְרָחֵל כִּי אֲחִי אָבִיהָ הוּא וְכִי בֶן-רִבְקָה הוּא וַתָּרָץ וַתַּגֵּד לְאָבִיהָ

    .

    And he told her that he was the son of her father's sister, the son of Rebekah; and she ran and told her father.

  13. Bereshit 29:13

    וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ לָבָן אֶת-שֵׁמַע יַעֲקֹב בֶּן-אֲחֹתוֹ וַיָּרָץ לִקְרָאתוֹ וַיְחַבֶּק-לוֹ וַיְנַשֶּׁק-לוֹ וַיְבִיאֵהוּ אֶל-בֵּיתוֹ וַיְסַפֵּר לְלָבָן אֵת כָּל-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה

    . . . .

    And when Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister's son, he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him into his house; and he told Laban all these things.

  14. Bereshit 29:14

    וַיֹּאמֶר לוֹ לָבָן אַךְ עַצְמִי וּבְשָׂרִי אָתָּה וַיֵּשֶׁב עִמּוֹ חֹדֶשׁ יָמִים

    . .

    Laban said to him: 'Surely you are my bone and my flesh.' And he stayed with him a month of days.

  15. Bereshit 29:15

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָבָן לְיַעֲקֹב הֲכִי-אָחִי אַתָּה וַעֲבַדְתַּנִי חִנָּם הַגִּידָה לִּי מַה-מַּשְׂכֻּרְתֶּךָ

    . . .

    Then Laban said to him: 'Just because you are my kinsman, shall you serve me for nothing? Tell me what is your wage.'

  16. Bereshit 29:16

    וּלְלָבָן שְׁתֵּי בָנוֹת שֵׁם הַגְּדֹלָה לֵאָה וְשֵׁם הַקְּטַנָּה רָחֵל

    . .

    And Laban had two daughters; the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

  17. Bereshit 29:17

    וְעֵינֵי לֵאָה רַכּוֹת וְרָחֵל הָיְתָה יְפַת-תֹּאַר וִיפַת מַרְאֶה

    . .

    And the eyes of Leah were beautiful; and Rachel was beautiful both of form and of appearance.

  18. Bereshit 29:18

    וַיֶּאֱהַב יַעֲקֹב אֶת-רָחֵל וַיֹּאמֶר אֶעֱבָדְךָ שֶׁבַע שָׁנִים בְּרָחֵל בִּתְּךָ הַקְּטַנָּה

    . .

    And Jacob loved Rachel, and said: 'I shall serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.'

  19. Bereshit 29:19

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָבָן טוֹב תִּתִּי אֹתָהּ לָךְ מִתִּתִּי אֹתָהּ לְאִישׁ אַחֵר שְׁבָה עִמָּדִי

    Laban said: 'It is more fitting that I give her to you than that I give her to another man; stay with me.'

  20. Bereshit 29:21

    וַיֹּאמֶר יַעֲקֹב אֶל-לָבָן הָבָה אֶת-אִשְׁתִּי כִּי מָלְאוּ יָמָי וְאָבוֹאָה אֵלֶיהָ

    . .

    Then Jacob said to him: 'Give me my wife, for my days have been completed; let me enter to her.'

    וַיֶּאֱסֹף לָבָן אֶת-כָּל-אַנְשֵׁי הַמָּקוֹם וַיַּעַשׂ מִשְׁתֶּה

    And Laban gathered the people of his place, and made them a feast.

  22. Bereshit 29:23

    וַיְהִי בָעֶרֶב--וַיִּקַּח אֶת-לֵאָה בִתּוֹ וַיָּבֵא אֹתָהּ אֵלָיו וַיָּבֹא אֵלֶיהָ

    And when it was evening, he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he came in to her.

  23. Bereshit 29:24

    וַיִּתֵּן לָבָן לָהּ אֶת-זִלְפָּה שִׁפְחָתוֹ--לְלֵאָה בִתּוֹ שִׁפְחָה

    .

    And he gave her Zilpah his maidservant, to be a maidservant for her.

  24. Bereshit 29:25

    וַיְהִי בַבֹּקֶר וְהִנֵּה-הִוא לֵאָה וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל-לָבָן מַה-זֹּאת עָשִׂיתָ לִּי--הֲלֹא בְרָחֵל עָבַדְתִּי עִמָּךְ וְלָמָּה רִמִּיתָנִי

    . . . . .

    And in the morningbehold, it was Leah; and he said to Laban: 'What is this you have done to me? Did I not serve you for Rachel? Why have you deceived me?'

  25. Bereshit 29:26

    וַיֹּאמֶר לָבָן לֹא-יֵעָשֶׂה כֵן בִּמְקוֹמֵנוּ--לָתֵת הַצְּעִירָה לִפְנֵי הַבְּכִירָה

    . .

    He said: 'It is not done so in our landto give the younger before the elder.

  26. Bereshit 29:27

    מַלֵּא שְׁבֻעַ זֹאת וְנִתְּנָה לְךָ גַּם-אֶת-זֹאת בַּעֲבֹדָה אֲשֶׁר תַּעֲבֹד עִמָּדִי עוֹד שֶׁבַע-שָׁנִים אֲחֵרוֹת

    . . .

    Complete the week of this one, and we shall give you this one also, for a service that you shall serve me another seven years.'

  27. Bereshit 29:28

    וַיַּעַשׂ יַעֲקֹב כֵּן וַיְמַלֵּא שְׁבֻעַ זֹאת וַיִּתֶּן-לוֹ אֶת-רָחֵל בִּתּוֹ לוֹ לְאִשָּׁה

    And Jacob did so, and completed her week; and he gave him Rachel his daughter, to be his wife.

  28. Bereshit 29:29

    וַיִּתֵּן לָבָן לְרָחֵל בִּתּוֹ אֶת-בִּלְהָה שִׁפְחָתוֹ--לָהּ לְשִׁפְחָה

    .

    And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maidservant, to be a maidservant for her.

  29. Bereshit 29:30

    וַיָּבֹא גַּם אֶל-רָחֵל וַיֶּאֱהַב גַּם-אֶת-רָחֵל מִלֵּאָה וַיַּעֲבֹד עִמּוֹ עוֹד שֶׁבַע-שָׁנִים אֲחֵרוֹת

    And he came also to Rachel; and he loved her more than Leah. And he served him yet another seven years.

  30. Bereshit 29:31

    וַיַּרְא יְהוָה כִּי-שְׂנוּאָה לֵאָה וַיִּפְתַּח אֶת-רַחְמָהּ וְרָחֵל עֲקָרָה

    . .

    And God knew that Leah was hated; and He granted her a child. And Rachel was barren.

  31. Bereshit 29:32

    וַתַּהַר לֵאָה וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ רְאוּבֵן כִּי אָמְרָה כִּי-רָאָה יְהוָה בְּעָנְיִי--כִּי עַתָּה יֶאֱהָבַנִי אִישִׁי

    . . . .

    And Leah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Reubenfor she said: 'God has looked upon my affliction; now my husband will love me.'

  32. Bereshit 29:33

    וַתַּהַר עוֹד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר כִּי-שָׁמַע יְהוָה כִּי-שְׂנוּאָה אָנֹכִי וַיִּתֶּן-לִי גַּם-אֶת-זֶה וַתִּקְרָא שְׁמוֹ שִׁמְעוֹן

    . . .

    And she conceived again, and bore a son; she said: 'God is an attentive listenerfor I am hated; and He has granted me this one also.' And she named him Simeon.

  33. Bereshit 29:34

    וַתַּהַר עוֹד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר עַתָּה הַפַּעַם יִלָּוֶה אִישִׁי אֵלַי כִּי-יָלַדְתִּי לוֹ שְׁלֹשָׁה בָנִים עַל-כֵּן קָרָא-שְׁמוֹ לֵוִי

    . . . .

    And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said: 'This time my husband shall turn to mefor I have borne him three sons.' And she named him Levi.

  34. Bereshit 29:35

    וַתַּהַר עוֹד וַתֵּלֶד בֵּן וַתֹּאמֶר הַפַּעַם אוֹדֶה אֶת-יְהוָה--עַל-כֵּן קָרְאָה שְׁמוֹ יְהוּדָה וַתַּעֲמֹד מִלֶּדֶת

    . . .

    And she conceived again, and bore a son; and she said: 'This time I shall thank God.' Therefore she named him Judah. And she ceased from bearing.
