- Devarim 25:1
כִּי-יִהְיֶה רִיב בֵּין אֲנָשִׁים וְנִגְּשׁוּ אֶל-הַמִּשְׁפָּט וּשְׁפָטוּם וְהִצְדִּיקוּ אֶת-הַצַּדִּיק וְהִרְשִׁיעוּ אֶת-הָרָשָׁע
. . .
And when a dispute falls between people, they shall come forward to those possessed of judgment, and they shall judge between them; and they shall vindicate the one in the right, and condemn the wrongdoer.

וְהָיָה אִם-בִּן הַכּוֹת הָרָשָׁע--וְהִפִּילוֹ הַשֹּׁפֵט וְהִכָּהוּ לְפָנָיו כְּדֵי רִשְׁעָתוֹ בְּמִסְפָּר
. .
And if the wrongdoer deserves a flogging, the judge shall lay him down and strike him in his presence, according to the measure of his offense, by count.

אַרְבָּעִים יַכֶּנּוּ לֹא יֹסִיף פֶּן-יֹסִיף לְהַכֹּתוֹ עַל-אֵלֶּה מַכָּה רַבָּה וְנִקְלָה אָחִיךָ לְעֵינֶיךָ
. ]] .
He shall flog him forty — he shall not add to them anything. For if he adds beyond that, the flogging will become a grievous one, and your brother will be degraded in your presence.

לֹא-תַחְסֹם שׁוֹר בְּדִישׁוֹ
You shall not muzzle the ox in its threshing.

כִּי-יֵשְׁבוּ אַחִים יַחְדָּו וּמֵת אַחַד מֵהֶם וּבֵן אֵין-לוֹ--לֹא-תִהְיֶה אֵשֶׁת-הַמֵּת הַחוּצָה לְאִישׁ זָר יְבָמָהּ יָבֹא עָלֶיהָ וּלְקָחָהּ לוֹ לְאִשָּׁה וְיִבְּמָהּ
. . . . .
And when brothers dwell together, and one of them dies and he has no child — the wife of the deceased shall not become a stranger's, outside the brotherhood; rather, her brother-in-law shall come in to her, by taking her to himself as a wife and building a home with her.

וְהָיָה הַבְּכוֹר אֲשֶׁר תֵּלֵד--יָקוּם עַל-שֵׁם אָחִיו הַמֵּת וְלֹא-יִמָּחֶה שְׁמוֹ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל

And the firstborn whom it is hoped she will bear from him shall stand in the name of his dead brother, so that his name not be blotted out from the house of Israel.

וְאִם-לֹא יַחְפֹּץ הָאִישׁ לָקַחַת אֶת-יְבִמְתּוֹ וְעָלְתָה יְבִמְתּוֹ הַשַּׁעְרָה אֶל-הַזְּקֵנִים וְאָמְרָה מֵאֵן יְבָמִי לְהָקִים לְאָחִיו שֵׁם בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל--לֹא אָבָה יַבְּמִי
. . . . .
And if that man does not wish to marry his sister-in-law, she shall go up to the gate of the judge and to the elders, and shall say: 'My brother-in-law has refused to establish a name for his brother among the sons of Israel, and he has not wished to build a home with me.'

וְקָרְאוּ-לוֹ זִקְנֵי-עִירוֹ וְדִבְּרוּ אֵלָיו וְעָמַד וְאָמַר לֹא חָפַצְתִּי לְקַחְתָּהּ

The elders of his town shall call for him and speak with him about that; and if he stands firm in his word and says: 'I do not wish to marry her' —

וְנִגְּשָׁה יְבִמְתּוֹ אֵלָיו לְעֵינֵי הַזְּקֵנִים וְחָלְצָה נַעֲלוֹ מֵעַל רַגְלוֹ וְיָרְקָה בְּפָנָיו וְעָנְתָה וְאָמְרָה כָּכָה יֵעָשֶׂה לָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִבְנֶה אֶת-בֵּית אָחִיו
. . . . .
his sister-in-law shall come forward to him in the presence of the elders, and remove his sandal from his foot, and spit in his presence; and she shall answer and say: 'Thus shall be done to the man who does not build his brother's house.'

וְנִקְרָא שְׁמוֹ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל בֵּית חֲלוּץ הַנָּעַל
.
And his name shall be called in the house of Israel: 'The house of the one whose sandal was removed.'

כִּי-יִנָּצוּ אֲנָשִׁים יַחְדָּו אִישׁ וְאָחִיו וְקָרְבָה אֵשֶׁת הָאֶחָד לְהַצִּיל אֶת-אִישָׁהּ מִיַּד מַכֵּהוּ וְשָׁלְחָה יָדָהּ וְהֶחֱזִיקָה בִּמְבֻשָׁיו
. . . .
And if two men strive together, and one of them overpowers the other, and his wife comes forward to rescue him from the other's hand, and she stretches out her hand and seizes his private parts —

וְקַצֹּתָה אֶת-כַּפָּהּ לֹא תָחוֹס עֵינֶךָ
.
you shall cut off her hand to free him from her, and you shall not show pity for her.
- Devarim 25:13
לֹא-יִהְיֶה לְךָ בְּכִיסְךָ אֶבֶן וָאָבֶן גְּדוֹלָה וּקְטַנָּה
. .
You shall not have in your pouch two weights — a large and a small.
- Devarim 25:14
לֹא-יִהְיֶה לְךָ בְּבֵיתְךָ אֵיפָה וְאֵיפָה גְּדוֹלָה וּקְטַנָּה
.
And you shall not have in your house two measures — a large and a small.

אֶבֶן שְׁלֵמָה וָצֶדֶק יִהְיֶה-לָּךְ אֵיפָה שְׁלֵמָה וָצֶדֶק יִהְיֶה-לָּךְ--לְמַעַן יַאֲרִיכוּ יָמֶיךָ עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ
. . .
Rather, full and just weights shall you have, and full and just measures shall you have — so that your span of days may be long in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

כִּי תוֹעֲבַת יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ כָּל-עֹשֵׂה אֵלֶּה כֹּל עֹשֵׂה עָוֶל

For the Lord your God loathes everyone who does this — everyone who acts with fraud.

זָכוֹר אֵת אֲשֶׁר-עָשָׂה לְךָ עֲמָלֵק בַּדֶּרֶךְ בְּצֵאתְכֶם מִמִּצְרָיִם
.
And remember what Amalek did to you on the road, when you were coming out of Egypt:
- Devarim 25:18
אֲשֶׁר קָרְךָ בַּדֶּרֶךְ וַיְזַנֵּב בְּךָ כָּל-הַנֶּחֱשָׁלִים אַחֲרֶיךָ--וְאַתָּה עָיֵף וְיָגֵעַ וְלֹא יָרֵא אֱלֹהִים
. . .
that he came upon you on the road, and cut off from you all the stragglers behind you, while you were weary and exhausted — and he did not fear God.

וְהָיָה בְּהָנִיחַ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לְךָ מִכָּל-אֹיְבֶיךָ מִסָּבִיב בָּאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה-אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ נַחֲלָה לְרִשְׁתָּהּ--תִּמְחֶה אֶת-זֵכֶר עֲמָלֵק מִתַּחַת הַשָּׁמָיִם לֹא תִּשְׁכָּח
. . . . . .
And when the Lord your God gives you rest from all your enemies round about you, in the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess it — you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from beneath the sky. Do not forget that.
