    . . . . . .

And that is by assembling the peoplethe men, the women, the children, and the stranger who is in your settlementsso that they may hear and learn, and fear God your Lord, and keep and act upon all the words of this Torah.

  13. Devarim 31:13

    . . . . .

And God said to Moses: 'Behold, your days have drawn near to death. Summon Joshua, and both of you stand in the tent of the assembly, so that I may appoint him as successor.' And Moses and Joshua went and stood in the tent of the assembly.

  15. Devarim 31:15

    . .

And God appeared in the tent in a pillar of cloud, and it stood at its entrance.

  16. Devarim 31:16

    . . . . . . .

And God said first to Moses: 'You shall presently lie down with your fathers, and this people shall arise and go astray, following the objects of worship of the people of the land to which it is going, in their midst; and it shall forsake Me and break My covenant which I made with it.

  17. Devarim 31:17

    . . . . . . .

And My anger shall intensify against them at that time, and I shall leave them, and I shall withhold My mercy from themso that they shall become prey; and many evils and hardships shall befall them. And they shall say at that time: Is it not because the providence of my Lord is not with me that these afflictions have befallen me?

  18. Devarim 31:18

    . . . .

And yet, I persist in withholding My mercy from them at that time, on account of the evil which they have donesince they have turned to other objects of worship.'

  19. Devarim 31:19

    . . . .

And now, write down for yourselves this song of praise, and teach it to the sons of Israel, until you receive it in full from their mouthsso that it may be a witness for Me against them.

  20. Devarim 31:20

    . . . . . .

For when I bring them into the land which I swore to their fathersa land flowing with milk and honeytheir people shall eat and be satisfied and grow fat; then they shall turn to other objects of worship and serve them, and they shall reject Me and break My covenant.

  21. Devarim 31:21

    . . . . . . .

And when many afflictions and hardships befall them, this song of praise shall be present before Me as a witness against themfor it must not be forgotten from the mouths of their offspring; since I know their thoughts, and what they are about to do, from this very day, before I bring them into the land which I have sworn.'

  22. Devarim 31:22

    .

So Moses wrote this song of praise on that day, and taught it to the sons of Israel.

  23. Devarim 31:23

    . . . .

Then He appointed Joshua son of Nun as successor, and said to him: 'Be strong and firm, for you shall bring the sons of Israel into the land which I have sworn to themand I shall be with you.'

  24. Devarim 31:24

    . .

Then, when Moses had finished writing all the words of this Torah in a scroll, until they were complete

  25. Devarim 31:25

    . .

Moses commanded the Levites, the bearers of the ark of the covenant of God, and said to them:

  26. Devarim 31:26

    . .

'Take this scroll of the Torah and place it beside the ark of the covenant of God your Lordit shall be there as a witness against you.

  27. Devarim 31:27

    . . .

For I know your contrariness and the stubbornness of your neck. Behold — while I am yet alive with you this day, you have not ceased to be disobedient to God; how much more so after my death!'

  28. Devarim 31:28

    . . .

'Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes and your overseers, so that I may speak to them these words, and call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against them.'

  29. Devarim 31:29

    . . . . . ]]

For I know that after my death you shall act corruptly, and deviate from the path which I commanded youand affliction shall come upon you in the end of these days, since you shall do evil before God, provoking Him to anger by the work of your hands.

  30. Devarim 31:30

    . .

Then Moses spoke to them all the words of this song of praise, until they were complete.
