- Shemot 22:1
אִם-בַּמַּחְתֶּרֶת יִמָּצֵא הַגַּנָּב וְהֻכָּה וָמֵת--אֵין לוֹ דָּמִים
.
And if the thief be found in the breach, and be struck and killed — take no account of him.
- Shemot 22:2
אִם-זָרְחָה הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ עָלָיו דָּמִים לוֹ שַׁלֵּם יְשַׁלֵּם--אִם-אֵין לוֹ וְנִמְכַּר בִּגְנֵבָתוֹ
. . .
And if the sun has shone upon him, then take account of him; and he shall deliver what he stole; and if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

אִם-הִמָּצֵא תִמָּצֵא בְיָדוֹ הַגְּנֵבָה מִשּׁוֹר עַד-חֲמוֹר עַד-שֶׂה--חַיִּים שְׁנַיִם יְשַׁלֵּם
. . .
And if the stolen thing be found in his hand — whether ox or donkey or sheep, and they are alive — he shall deliver two in place of the one.

כִּי יַבְעֶר-אִישׁ שָׂדֶה אוֹ-כֶרֶם וְשִׁלַּח אֶת-בְּעִירֹה וּבִעֵר בִּשְׂדֵה אַחֵר--מֵיטַב שָׂדֵהוּ וּמֵיטַב כַּרְמוֹ יְשַׁלֵּם
. . .
And if a man grazes a field or a vineyard of his, and lets his beast loose, and it grazes in another's field — he shall deliver from the best of his field or his vineyard.

כִּי-תֵצֵא אֵשׁ וּמָצְאָה קֹצִים וְנֶאֱכַל גָּדִישׁ אוֹ הַקָּמָה אוֹ הַשָּׂדֶה--שַׁלֵּם יְשַׁלֵּם הַמַּבְעִר אֶת-הַבְּעֵרָה
. . . .
And if a fire breaks out, and finds thorns and burns a stack, or standing ears of grain, or the rest of what is in the fields — he who kindled the burning shall deliver what is due from him.

כִּי-יִתֵּן אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵהוּ כֶּסֶף אוֹ-כֵלִים לִשְׁמֹר וְגֻנַּב מִבֵּית הָאִישׁ--אִם-יִמָּצֵא הַגַּנָּב יְשַׁלֵּם שְׁנָיִם
. . .
And if a man entrusts to his fellow silver or vessels to keep for him, and that is stolen from his dwelling — if the thief is found, he shall deliver two.

אִם-לֹא יִמָּצֵא הַגַּנָּב וְנִקְרַב בַּעַל-הַבַּיִת אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים אִם-לֹא שָׁלַח יָדוֹ בִּמְלֶאכֶת רֵעֵהוּ
. .
And if the thief is not found, the master of the dwelling shall come forward to the judge, and swear that he did not put forth his hand to his fellow's property.

עַל-כָּל-דְּבַר-פֶּשַׁע עַל-שׁוֹר עַל-חֲמוֹר עַל-שֶׂה עַל-שַׂלְמָה עַל-כָּל-אֲבֵדָה אֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר כִּי-הוּא זֶה--עַד הָאֱלֹהִים יָבֹא דְּבַר-שְׁנֵיהֶם אֲשֶׁר יַרְשִׁיעֻן אֱלֹהִים יְשַׁלֵּם שְׁנַיִם לְרֵעֵהוּ
. . . . . .
Regarding every matter he denies — whether ox or donkey or sheep or garment or any lost thing — if one says 'this is it,' the matter of the two of them shall be brought before the judge; and whoever the judge finds in the wrong shall deliver two to his fellow.

כִּי-יִתֵּן אִישׁ אֶל-רֵעֵהוּ חֲמוֹר אוֹ-שׁוֹר אוֹ-שֶׂה וְכָל-בְּהֵמָה--לִשְׁמֹר וּמֵת אוֹ-נִשְׁבַּר אוֹ-נִשְׁבָּה אֵין רֹאֶה
. . . .
And if a man entrusts to his fellow a donkey, or an ox, or a sheep, or anything of the rest of the beasts, to keep it — and it dies, or is injured, or is taken captive, with no clear witness —

שְׁבֻעַת יְהוָה תִּהְיֶה בֵּין שְׁנֵיהֶם--אִם-לֹא שָׁלַח יָדוֹ בִּמְלֶאכֶת רֵעֵהוּ וְלָקַח בְּעָלָיו וְלֹא יְשַׁלֵּם
.
an oath by God shall decide between the two of them, that he did not put forth his hand to his fellow's property; and the fellow shall accept it, and he shall deliver nothing.

וְאִם-גָּנֹב יִגָּנֵב מֵעִמּוֹ--יְשַׁלֵּם לִבְעָלָיו
And if it was stolen from his keeping, he shall deliver to him.

אִם-טָרֹף יִטָּרֵף יְבִאֵהוּ עֵד הַטְּרֵפָה לֹא יְשַׁלֵּם
.
And if it was torn by a beast, let him bring a witness — and he shall not be liable for the torn animal.

וְכִי-יִשְׁאַל אִישׁ מֵעִם רֵעֵהוּ וְנִשְׁבַּר אוֹ-מֵת בְּעָלָיו אֵין-עִמּוֹ שַׁלֵּם יְשַׁלֵּם
. .
And if a man borrows something from his fellow and it is broken or dies, and its owner was not with him — he shall pay a penalty for it.

אִם-בְּעָלָיו עִמּוֹ לֹא יְשַׁלֵּם אִם-שָׂכִיר הוּא בָּא בִּשְׂכָרוֹ
. .
And if its owner was with him, he shall not pay a penalty; and if it was hired, it has already passed with its hire.

וְכִי-יְפַתֶּה אִישׁ בְּתוּלָה אֲשֶׁר לֹא-אֹרָשָׂה--וְשָׁכַב עִמָּהּ מָהֹר יִמְהָרֶנָּה לּוֹ לְאִשָּׁה
. .
And if a man deceives a maiden who is a virgin, who has not yet been betrothed, and lies with her — he shall pay her bride-price, and she shall be his wife.

אִם-מָאֵן יְמָאֵן אָבִיהָ לְתִתָּהּ לוֹ--כֶּסֶף יִשְׁקֹל כְּמֹהַר הַבְּתוּלֹת
. .
And if her father refuses to give her to him in marriage, he shall weigh out for him in silver the bride-price of virgins.

מְכַשֵּׁפָה לֹא תְחַיֶּה
And the sorceress — do not let her live.
- Shemot 22:18
כָּל-שֹׁכֵב עִם-בְּהֵמָה מוֹת יוּמָת
And whoever lies with any of the beasts shall be put to death.

זֹבֵחַ לָאֱלֹהִים יָחֳרָם--בִּלְתִּי לַיהוָה לְבַדּוֹ
.
And whoever slaughters to the worshipped ones shall be destroyed — except to the name of God alone.

וְגֵר לֹא-תוֹנֶה וְלֹא תִלְחָצֶנּוּ כִּי-גֵרִים הֱיִיתֶם בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם
.
And the stranger — do not cheat him nor press him; for how long you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

כָּל-אַלְמָנָה וְיָתוֹם לֹא תְעַנּוּן
Every widow and orphan — do not wrong them.
- Shemot 22:22
אִם-עַנֵּה תְעַנֶּה אֹתוֹ--כִּי אִם-צָעֹק יִצְעַק אֵלַי שָׁמֹעַ אֶשְׁמַע צַעֲקָתוֹ
. .
For if you wrong him, and he cries out to Me — I shall answer him regarding his cry.

וְחָרָה אַפִּי וְהָרַגְתִּי אֶתְכֶם בֶּחָרֶב וְהָיוּ נְשֵׁיכֶם אַלְמָנוֹת וּבְנֵיכֶם יְתֹמִים
. . .
My anger shall intensify, and I shall kill you by the sword; and your wives shall become widows, and your sons orphans.

אִם-כֶּסֶף תַּלְוֶה אֶת-עַמִּי אֶת-הֶעָנִי עִמָּךְ--לֹא-תִהְיֶה לוֹ כְּנֹשֶׁה לֹא-תְשִׂימוּן עָלָיו נֶשֶׁךְ
. . .
And if you lend silver to some of My people — to the poor one who is with you — do not be to him like a creditor, and do not impose upon him interest.
- Shemot 22:25
אִם-חָבֹל תַּחְבֹּל שַׂלְמַת רֵעֶךָ--עַד-בֹּא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ תְּשִׁיבֶנּוּ לוֹ
.
And if you take your fellow's garment as a pledge, return it to him at the setting of the sun.

כִּי הִוא כְסוּתֹה לְבַדָּהּ הִוא שִׂמְלָתוֹ לְעֹרוֹ בַּמֶּה יִשְׁכָּב--וְהָיָה כִּי-יִצְעַק אֵלַי וְשָׁמַעְתִּי כִּי-חַנּוּן אָנִי
. . . .
For it is his only covering — it is the garment of his body — with what shall he lie down? And if he cries out to Me, I shall hear him, for I am compassionate.

אֱלֹהִים לֹא תְקַלֵּל וְנָשִׂיא בְעַמְּךָ לֹא תָאֹר
.
Do not revile a judge; and a noble among your people — do not curse him.
- Shemot 22:28
מְלֵאָתְךָ וְדִמְעֲךָ לֹא תְאַחֵר בְּכוֹר בָּנֶיךָ תִּתֶּן-לִי
.
Your first-pressed yield and your first-drip offering — do not delay them; the firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me.

כֵּן-תַּעֲשֶׂה לְשֹׁרְךָ לְצֹאנֶךָ שִׁבְעַת יָמִים יִהְיֶה עִם-אִמּוֹ בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁמִינִי תִּתְּנוֹ-לִי
. .
So shall you do with your cattle and your flock: it shall remain seven days with its mother, and on the eighth day you shall give it to Me.

וְאַנְשֵׁי-קֹדֶשׁ תִּהְיוּן לִי וּבָשָׂר בַּשָּׂדֶה טְרֵפָה לֹא תֹאכֵלוּ לַכֶּלֶב תַּשְׁלִכוּן אֹתוֹ
. .
And be for Me a people who are consecrated. And an animal torn in the open country — do not eat it; but throw it to the dog.
