- Bereshit 17:1
וַיְהִי אַבְרָם בֶּן-תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה וְתֵשַׁע שָׁנִים וַיֵּרָא יְהוָה אֶל-אַבְרָם וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלָיו אֲנִי-אֵל שַׁדַּי--הִתְהַלֵּךְ לְפָנַי וֶהְיֵה תָמִים
. . . .
And when Abram became a son of ninety-nine years, God appeared to him, and said to him: 'I am the Sufficient Power; walk in obedience to Me, and be wholesome.
- Bereshit 17:2
וְאֶתְּנָה בְרִיתִי בֵּינִי וּבֵינֶךָ וְאַרְבֶּה אוֹתְךָ בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד
.
And I shall place My covenant between Me and you; and I shall multiply you exceedingly.'

וַיִּפֹּל אַבְרָם עַל-פָּנָיו וַיְדַבֵּר אִתּוֹ אֱלֹהִים לֵאמֹר
.
And Abram fell upon his face; and God addressed him, saying:
- Bereshit 17:4
אֲנִי הִנֵּה בְרִיתִי אִתָּךְ וְהָיִיתָ לְאַב הֲמוֹן גּוֹיִם
.
'Behold, I am setting My covenant with you; and you shall be a father of a multitude of nations.
- Bereshit 17:5
וְלֹא-יִקָּרֵא עוֹד אֶת-שִׁמְךָ אַבְרָם וְהָיָה שִׁמְךָ אַבְרָהָם כִּי אַב-הֲמוֹן גּוֹיִם נְתַתִּיךָ
. .
And your name shall never again be called Abram; rather, your name shall be Abraham — for I have made you a father of a multitude of nations.
- Bereshit 17:6
וְהִפְרֵתִי אֹתְךָ בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד וּנְתַתִּיךָ לְגוֹיִם וּמְלָכִים מִמְּךָ יֵצֵאוּ
. .
And I shall make you grow exceedingly; and I shall make of you nations; and kings shall come forth from you.
- Bereshit 17:7
וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת-בְּרִיתִי בֵּינִי וּבֵינֶךָ וּבֵין זַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ לְדֹרֹתָם--לִבְרִית עוֹלָם לִהְיוֹת לְךָ לֵאלֹהִים וּלְזַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ
. . . .
And I shall establish My covenant between Me and you, and between your offspring after you, for their generations — an eternal covenant — to be your God, and the God of your offspring after you.

וְנָתַתִּי לְךָ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ אֵת אֶרֶץ מְגֻרֶיךָ אֵת כָּל-אֶרֶץ כְּנַעַן לַאֲחֻזַּת עוֹלָם וְהָיִיתִי לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים
. . .
And I shall give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land of your dwelling — all the land of Canaan — as an eternal possession; and I shall be their God.'
- Bereshit 17:9
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל-אַבְרָהָם וְאַתָּה אֶת-בְּרִיתִי תִשְׁמֹר--אַתָּה וְזַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ לְדֹרֹתָם
. .
Then God said to him: 'And you shall keep My covenant — you and your offspring after you, for their generations.
- Bereshit 17:10
זֹאת בְּרִיתִי אֲשֶׁר תִּשְׁמְרוּ בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיכֶם וּבֵין זַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ הִמּוֹל לָכֶם כָּל-זָכָר
. . .
This is My covenant which you shall keep, between Me and you, and your offspring after you: every male among you shall be circumcised.
- Bereshit 17:11
וּנְמַלְתֶּם אֵת בְּשַׂר עָרְלַתְכֶם וְהָיָה לְאוֹת בְּרִית בֵּינִי וּבֵינֵיכֶם
.
And when you circumcise the foreskin from your bodies, it shall be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
- Bereshit 17:12
וּבֶן-שְׁמֹנַת יָמִים יִמּוֹל לָכֶם כָּל-זָכָר--לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶם יְלִיד בָּיִת--וּמִקְנַת-כֶּסֶף מִכֹּל בֶּן-נֵכָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא מִזַּרְעֲךָ הוּא
. . . .
And of eight days shall every male among you be circumcised, for your generations — the one born in your household, and the one bought with money from every foreigner, who is not of your offspring.
- Bereshit 17:13
הִמּוֹל יִמּוֹל יְלִיד בֵּיתְךָ וּמִקְנַת כַּסְפֶּךָ וְהָיְתָה בְרִיתִי בִּבְשַׂרְכֶם לִבְרִית עוֹלָם
. . .
Surely circumcised shall be the one born in your house, and the one bought for you with money; and My covenant shall be in your bodies as an eternal covenant.

וְעָרֵל זָכָר אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִמּוֹל אֶת-בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתוֹ--וְנִכְרְתָה הַנֶּפֶשׁ הַהִוא מֵעַמֶּיהָ אֶת-בְּרִיתִי הֵפַר
. . .
And any uncircumcised man who shall not circumcise the foreskin from his body — that man shall be cut off from his people, because he has broken My covenant.'
- Bereshit 17:15
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל-אַבְרָהָם שָׂרַי אִשְׁתְּךָ לֹא-תִקְרָא אֶת-שְׁמָהּ שָׂרָי כִּי שָׂרָה שְׁמָהּ
. . .
Then God said to Abraham: 'Sarai your wife — you shall not call her name Sarai; rather, her name is Sarah.
- Bereshit 17:16
וּבֵרַכְתִּי אֹתָהּ וְגַם נָתַתִּי מִמֶּנָּה לְךָ בֵּן וּבֵרַכְתִּיהָ וְהָיְתָה לְגוֹיִם מַלְכֵי עַמִּים מִמֶּנָּה יִהְיוּ
. . .
For I shall bless her; and I shall grant you from her a son; and I shall bless him, and from him shall come nations; and kings of peoples shall come forth from him.'

וַיִּפֹּל אַבְרָהָם עַל-פָּנָיו וַיִּצְחָק וַיֹּאמֶר בְּלִבּוֹ הַלְּבֶן מֵאָה-שָׁנָה יִוָּלֵד וְאִם-שָׂרָה הֲבַת-תִּשְׁעִים שָׁנָה תֵּלֵד
. . . . .
And Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed for joy; and he said in himself: 'Shall a son of a hundred years beget? Or shall Sarah, a daughter of ninety years, bear?'
- Bereshit 17:18
וַיֹּאמֶר אַבְרָהָם אֶל-הָאֱלֹהִים לוּ יִשְׁמָעֵאל יִחְיֶה לְפָנֶיךָ
.
And Abraham said before God: 'O that Ishmael might live with him before You!'
- Bereshit 17:19
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֲבָל שָׂרָה אִשְׁתְּךָ יֹלֶדֶת לְךָ בֵּן וְקָרָאתָ אֶת-שְׁמוֹ יִצְחָק וַהֲקִמֹתִי אֶת-בְּרִיתִי אִתּוֹ לִבְרִית עוֹלָם לְזַרְעוֹ אַחֲרָיו
. . . . .
And God said: 'But Sarah your wife shall bear you a son; and you shall name him Isaac; and I shall establish My covenant with him as an eternal covenant — and with his offspring after him.

וּלְיִשְׁמָעֵאל שְׁמַעְתִּיךָ--הִנֵּה בֵּרַכְתִּי אֹתוֹ וְהִפְרֵיתִי אֹתוֹ וְהִרְבֵּיתִי אֹתוֹ בִּמְאֹד מְאֹד שְׁנֵים-עָשָׂר נְשִׂיאִם יוֹלִיד וּנְתַתִּיו לְגוֹי גָּדוֹל
. . . .
And concerning Ishmael — I have accepted your intercession; behold, I am blessing him; and I shall make him grow, and multiply him exceedingly; twelve noble ones shall he beget; and I shall make of him a great nation.
- Bereshit 17:21
וְאֶת-בְּרִיתִי אָקִים אֶת-יִצְחָק אֲשֶׁר תֵּלֵד לְךָ שָׂרָה לַמּוֹעֵד הַזֶּה בַּשָּׁנָה הָאַחֶרֶת

And My covenant I shall establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this time, of the coming year.'

וַיְכַל לְדַבֵּר אִתּוֹ וַיַּעַל אֱלֹהִים מֵעַל אַבְרָהָם
And when He had finished speaking with him, the light of God ascended from upon Abraham.

וַיִּקַּח אַבְרָהָם אֶת-יִשְׁמָעֵאל בְּנוֹ וְאֵת כָּל-יְלִידֵי בֵיתוֹ וְאֵת כָּל-מִקְנַת כַּסְפּוֹ--כָּל-זָכָר בְּאַנְשֵׁי בֵּית אַבְרָהָם וַיָּמָל אֶת-בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתָם בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אִתּוֹ אֱלֹהִים

And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all those born in his household, and those bought with money — every man among the people of the house of Abraham — and he circumcised the foreskin from their bodies, on that very day, as God had commanded him.

וְאַבְרָהָם--בֶּן-תִּשְׁעִים וָתֵשַׁע שָׁנָה בְּהִמֹּלוֹ בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתוֹ

And Abraham was a son of ninety-nine years when he circumcised the foreskin from his body.

וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בְּנוֹ בֶּן-שְׁלֹשׁ עֶשְׂרֵה שָׁנָה בְּהִמֹּלוֹ--אֵת בְּשַׂר עָרְלָתוֹ

And Ishmael his son was a son of thirteen years when he circumcised the foreskin from his body.

בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה נִמּוֹל אַבְרָהָם וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל בְּנוֹ
. .
On that very day were Abraham and Ishmael his son circumcised.
- Bereshit 17:27
וְכָל-אַנְשֵׁי בֵיתוֹ יְלִיד בָּיִת וּמִקְנַת-כֶּסֶף מֵאֵת בֶּן-נֵכָר--נִמֹּלוּ אִתּוֹ

And every man in his household — the one born in his house, and the one bought with money from every foreigner — were circumcised with him.
