  1. Devarim 4:1

    . . . . .

And now, O Israel, hear the statutes and the ordinances which I am teaching you, to do themso that you may live, and enter and possess the land which God, the God of your fathers, is giving you.

  2. Devarim 4:2

    . . . .

You shall not add anything to what I command you, nor diminish from it; but keep the commandments of God your Lord which I command you today.

  3. Devarim 4:3

    . . .

And your eyes have seen all that God did with Peor the idolthat every man who followed it, God your Lord drove out from among you.

  4. Devarim 4:4

    . .

And you who hold fast in obedience to God your Lordyou are all alive today.

  5. Devarim 4:5

    . . . . .

See, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, as God my Lord commanded me, that you should do them in the land to which you are going, to possess it.

  6. Devarim 4:6

    [[ . . . . . .

So keep them and act by themfor that is your wisdom and your understanding before the nations; for when they hear these statutes, they will surely say: this great assembly is indeed a wise and understanding people.

  7. Devarim 4:7

    . . .

For what great nation is there that has a god so near to it as God our Lordwhenever we call upon Him?

  8. Devarim 4:8

    . . .

And what great nation is there that has statutes and ordinances as just as all this Torah which I am reciting before you today?

  9. Devarim 4:9

    . . . .

Only take heed, and guard yourself exceedingly, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your son and to your son's son

  10. Devarim 4:10

    . . . . .

on the day you stood before God your Lord at Horeb, when God said to me: 'Gather the people to me, that I may let them hear my words, so that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.'

  11. Devarim 4:11

    . .

And you came forward and stood at the foot of the mountain, while it blazed with fire to the very heart of the sky, enveloped in the blackness of cloud and mist.

  12. Devarim 4:12

    . .

And God spoke to you from within the fire; you were hearing the words, and any likeness you did not seeonly the voice alone.

  13. Devarim 4:13

    . .

And He declared to you His covenant, which He commanded you to observethe Ten Words; and He wrote them upon two tablets of stone.

  14. Devarim 4:14

    . . .

And He commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you should do them in the land to which you are crossing over, to possess it.

  15. Devarim 4:15

    . . .

Take great heed therefore for your soulsfor you saw no likeness on the day God spoke to you at Horeb from within the fire

  16. Devarim 4:16

    .

lest you corrupt yourselves and make for yourselves a graven image in the form of any figure, whether male or female,

  17. Devarim 4:17

    . .

or in the form of any beast of the earth, or in the form of any winged bird that flies in the sky,

  18. Devarim 4:18

    . .

or in the form of anything that creeps upon the earth, or in the form of any fish that is in the water beneath the earth

  19. Devarim 4:19

    . . . . . . . .

and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky and behold the sun and the moon and the planets, and the rest of the stars of the sky, and be led astray and bow down to them and serve themthose whose light God your Lord has spread abroad for all the peoples that are under all the sky.

  20. Devarim 4:20

    . . .

But youGod chose you out and brought you forth from what resembles a smelting furnace of iron, out of Egypt, to be for Him a chosen people, as on this day.

  21. Devarim 4:21

    . .

Now God was greatly angered with me on your account, and swore that I should not cross the Jordan, and that I should not enter the good land which God your Lord is giving you as an inheritance.

  22. Devarim 4:22

    . . .

For I am dying in this land; I shall not cross the Jordanbut you are crossing it, and you shall possess that good land.

  23. Devarim 4:23

    . . .

Take heed, lest you forget the covenant of God your Lord which He made with you, and make for yourselves a graven image in the likeness of anything that God your Lord has forbidden you.

  24. Devarim 4:24

    .

For the punishment of God your Lord is a consuming fireHe is the one possessed of power, the Punisher.

  25. Devarim 4:25

    . . . . .

When you beget sons and grandsons, and grow old in the land, and you corrupt yourselves by making a graven image of any likeness, and do evil before God your Lord and provoke Him

  26. Devarim 4:26

    . . . . .

I call to witness against you today the heavens and the earth: you shall surely perish swiftly from the land to which you are crossing the Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your time in it, but shall utterly be wiped out.

  27. Devarim 4:27

    . . .

And He will scatter you among the nations, and you shall remain a group that can be counted among the nations to which God drives you.

  28. Devarim 4:28

    . . . .

And there you shall serve objects of worship made by human handsof wood and stonewhich neither see nor hear, neither eat nor smell.

  29. Devarim 4:29

    . .

And from there you shall seek God your Lord and find Him, when you search for Him with a whole heart and soul.

  30. Devarim 4:30

    . . . .

When you are in distress and all these things come upon you in the end of days, then turn back to God your Lord and accept His command.

  31. Devarim 4:31

    . .

For God your Lord is possessed of power, compassionateHe will not forsake you nor abandon you, and He will not forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.

  32. Devarim 4:32

    . . . .

And nowinquire about the former days that were before your time, from the day God created Adam upon the earth, and from one end of the sky to the other: has there ever been anything like this great thing, or has the like of it been heard?

  33. Devarim 4:33

    . .

Has a nation ever heard the voice of God speaking to it from within fire, as you heardand lived?

  34. Devarim 4:34

    . . . . ]] . .

Or has God raised a banner for anyone, appearing in order to deliver for him a nation from the midst of anotherby signs and wonders and proofs, and by battle, and a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and great terrorsas all that God your Lord did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

  35. Devarim 4:35

    . .

You are therefore obliged to know that God is the Godthere is no other beside Him, and none beside Him.

  36. Devarim 4:36

    . ]] .

From the sky He let you hear His voice to instruct you; and upon the earth He showed you His great fire, and you heard His words from within it.

  37. Devarim 4:37

    . . . ]] ]]

And that was because He loved your fathers and chose their offspring after them, and brought you out by His will, in His great power, from Egypt

  38. Devarim 4:38

    . . . . .

to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you before you, to bring you in and give you their land as an inheritance, as you see this day.

  39. Devarim 4:39

    . . . .

Know this therefore, and turn it over in your heart: that God is the God in the heavens above and the earth belowthere is none other.

  40. Devarim 4:40

    . . . . . . .

And keep His statutes and His commandments which I command you today, so that it may go well for you and for your children after you, and so that your span of days may be long in the land which God your Lord is giving you for all time.

  41. Devarim 4:41
