  1. Shemot 20:1

    וַיְדַבֵּר אֱלֹהִים אֵת כָּל-הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה לֵאמֹר

    .

    Then God spoke to them all of this discourse, saying:

  2. Shemot 20:2

    אָנֹכִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתִיךָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם מִבֵּית עֲבָדִים

    . .

    I am God your Lord, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

  3. Shemot 20:3

    לֹא-יִהְיֶה לְךָ אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים עַל-פָּנָי

    .

    You shall have no other object of worship besides Me.

  4. Shemot 20:4

    לֹא-תַעֲשֶׂה לְךָ פֶסֶל וְכָל-תְּמוּנָה אֲשֶׁר בַּשָּׁמַיִם מִמַּעַל וַאֲשֶׁר בָּאָרֶץ מִתָּחַת--וַאֲשֶׁר בַּמַּיִם מִתַּחַת לָאָרֶץ

    . . .

    You shall not make for yourself a graven image nor a likenessof what is in the sky in the heights, or of what is in the earth in the depths, or of what is in the water beneath the earth.

    לֹא-תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶה לָהֶם וְלֹא תָעָבְדֵם כִּי אָנֹכִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ אֵל קַנָּא--פֹּקֵד עֲו‍ֹן אָבֹת עַל-בָּנִים עַל-שִׁלֵּשִׁים וְעַל-רִבֵּעִים לְשֹׂנְאָי

    You shall not bow down to them nor worship themfor I am God your Lord, the Able, the Punisher, who demands the sins of the fathers together with the sons, and the third and the fourth generation, for those who hate Me;

  6. Shemot 20:6

    וְעֹשֶׂה חֶסֶד לַאֲלָפִים--לְאֹהֲבַי וּלְשֹׁמְרֵי מִצְו‍ֹתָי

    and who does good to thousands, among those who love Me and keep My commandments.

  7. Shemot 20:7

    לֹא תִשָּׂא אֶת-שֵׁם-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לַשָּׁוְא כִּי לֹא יְנַקֶּה יְהוָה אֵת אֲשֶׁר-יִשָּׂא אֶת-שְׁמוֹ לַשָּׁוְא

    . .

    You shall not swear by the name of God your Lord falselyfor God will not acquit one who swears by His name falsely.

  8. Shemot 20:8

    זָכוֹר אֶת-יוֹם הַשַּׁבָּת לְקַדְּשׁוֹ

    .

    Remember the day of the Sabbath and sanctify it.

  9. Shemot 20:9

    שֵׁשֶׁת יָמִים תַּעֲבֹד וְעָשִׂיתָ כָּל-מְלַאכְתֶּךָ

    .

    Six days you shall labor and do all your crafts.

  10. Shemot 20:10

    וְיוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי--שַׁבָּת לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ לֹא-תַעֲשֶׂה כָל-מְלָאכָה אַתָּה וּבִנְךָ וּבִתֶּךָ עַבְדְּךָ וַאֲמָתְךָ וּבְהֶמְתֶּךָ וְגֵרְךָ אֲשֶׁר בִּשְׁעָרֶיךָ

    . . . . . .

    But the seventh day is a Sabbath to God your Lordyou shall do nothing of the crafts: you, and your son and your daughter, your male servant and your maidservant and your beasts, and your guest who is in your place.

  11. Shemot 20:11

    כִּי שֵׁשֶׁת-יָמִים עָשָׂה יְהוָה אֶת-הַשָּׁמַיִם וְאֶת-הָאָרֶץ אֶת-הַיָּם וְאֶת-כָּל-אֲשֶׁר-בָּם וַיָּנַח בַּיּוֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִי עַל-כֵּן בֵּרַךְ יְהוָה אֶת-יוֹם הַשַּׁבָּת--וַיְקַדְּשֵׁהוּ

    . . . .

    For God created in six days the sky and the earth, and the sea and all that is in them, and gave them rest on the seventh daytherefore God bestowed His blessing upon the day of the Sabbath and sanctified it.

  12. Shemot 20:12

    כַּבֵּד אֶת-אָבִיךָ וְאֶת-אִמֶּךָ--לְמַעַן יַאֲרִכוּן יָמֶיךָ עַל הָאֲדָמָה אֲשֶׁר-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ

    . . .

    Honor your father and your mother, so that your span of days may be long in the land which God your Lord is giving you.

  13. Shemot 20:13

    לֹא תִרְצָח לֹא תִנְאָף לֹא תִגְנֹב לֹא-תַעֲנֶה בְרֵעֲךָ עֵד שָׁקֶר

    . . .

    You shall not kill a person. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your fellow.

  14. Shemot 20:14

    לֹא תַחְמֹד בֵּית רֵעֶךָ לֹא-תַחְמֹד אֵשֶׁת רֵעֶךָ וְעַבְדּוֹ וַאֲמָתוֹ וְשׁוֹרוֹ וַחֲמֹרוֹ וְכֹל אֲשֶׁר לְרֵעֶךָ

    . . .

    You shall not covet the house of your fellow; you shall not covet his wife, nor his male servant and his maidservant and his ox and his donkey, and all that is his.

  15. Shemot 20:15

    וְכָל-הָעָם רֹאִים אֶת-הַקּוֹלֹת וְאֶת-הַלַּפִּידִם וְאֵת קוֹל הַשֹּׁפָר וְאֶת-הָהָר עָשֵׁן וַיַּרְא הָעָם וַיָּנֻעוּ וַיַּעַמְדוּ מֵרָחֹק

    . . . .

    And all the people were beholding the thunderclaps and the bolts of fire, and the sound of the horn, and the mountain enveloped in smoke; and when they saw this, they were terrified, and they stood at a distance.

  16. Shemot 20:16

    וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל-מֹשֶׁה דַּבֵּר-אַתָּה עִמָּנוּ וְנִשְׁמָעָה וְאַל-יְדַבֵּר עִמָּנוּ אֱלֹהִים פֶּן-נָמוּת

    . .

    And they said to Moses: 'Speak to us yourself — we will hear from you; but let not God speak to us, lest we perish.'

    וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה אֶל-הָעָם אַל-תִּירָאוּ כִּי לְבַעֲבוּר נַסּוֹת אֶתְכֶם בָּא הָאֱלֹהִים וּבַעֲבוּר תִּהְיֶה יִרְאָתוֹ עַל-פְּנֵיכֶם--לְבִלְתִּי תֶחֱטָאוּ

    . . . .

    And Moses said to the people: 'Do not fearfor it is in order to test you that the light of God appeared to you, and in order that His awe may be in your hearts, that you should not sin.'

  18. Shemot 20:18

    וַיַּעֲמֹד הָעָם מֵרָחֹק וּמֹשֶׁה נִגַּשׁ אֶל-הָעֲרָפֶל אֲשֶׁר-שָׁם הָאֱלֹהִים

    . .

    And the people stood at a distance, while Moses drew near to the thick cloud where the light of God was.

  19. Shemot 20:19

    וַיֹּאמֶר יְהוָה אֶל-מֹשֶׁה כֹּה תֹאמַר אֶל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אַתֶּם רְאִיתֶם--כִּי מִן-הַשָּׁמַיִם דִּבַּרְתִּי עִמָּכֶם

    . . .

    And God said to Moses: 'Thus say to the sons of Israel: You have witnessed that from the heavens I addressed you.'

  20. Shemot 20:20

    לֹא תַעֲשׂוּן אִתִּי אֱלֹהֵי כֶסֶף וֵאלֹהֵי זָהָב לֹא תַעֲשׂוּ לָכֶם

    . .

    'You shall not make alongside Me objects of worship of silver, nor objects of worship of gold — you shall not make them for yourselves.'

  21. Shemot 20:21

    מִזְבַּח אֲדָמָה תַּעֲשֶׂה-לִּי וְזָבַחְתָּ עָלָיו אֶת-עֹלֹתֶיךָ וְאֶת-שְׁלָמֶיךָ אֶת-צֹאנְךָ וְאֶת-בְּקָרֶךָ בְּכָל-הַמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר אַזְכִּיר אֶת-שְׁמִי אָבוֹא אֵלֶיךָ וּבֵרַכְתִּיךָ

    . . . .

    'An altar of earth you shall make for Me, and sacrifice upon it your burnt offerings and your peace offeringsfrom your flock and your cattlein every place where I cause My name to be remembered; I will appear to you and bestow My blessing upon you.'

  22. Shemot 20:22

    וְאִם-מִזְבַּח אֲבָנִים תַּעֲשֶׂה-לִּי לֹא-תִבְנֶה אֶתְהֶן גָּזִית כִּי חַרְבְּךָ הֵנַפְתָּ עָלֶיהָ וַתְּחַלְלֶהָ

    'And if you make for Me an altar of stones, you shall not build them hewnfor if you move your iron tool upon them, you have degraded them.'

  23. Shemot 20:23

    וְלֹא-תַעֲלֶה בְמַעֲלֹת עַל-מִזְבְּחִי אֲשֶׁר לֹא-תִגָּלֶה עֶרְוָתְךָ עָלָיו

    .

    'And you shall not ascend by steps upon My altar, so that your nakedness not be uncovered upon it.'
